Pilates Tip of the Month: Learn the Mat

If you’re traveling this summer or feeling disconnected from your regular workout routine, I’ve got a simple solution: learn the Pilates mat work so you can take it anywhere.

You can do it in a hotel room, on the beach, at the airport (you might get a few stares), literally anywhere.

Brooke Siler’s book, The Pilates Body, breaks down each exercise step by step with photographs, modifications, and progressions, while explaining the purpose behind each exercise. It’s one of the easiest and most affordable ways to learn Pilates, no equipment required.

The mat work follows a specific order, and with a little consistency, it becomes surprisingly easy to memorize. Even 5–10 minutes a day can make a noticeable difference.
